To achieve an actual ending to the game, Shepard must acquire least 3,100 war assets. Related: Mass Effect 2: How to Defeat the Collectors and Keep EVERYONE Aliveįor Mass Effect Legendary Edition, the developers rebalanced the original galactic readiness system, which previously relied on spin-off game apps and the 'Galaxy At War' multiplayer mode. Does Shepard really need to carry out every single task and scan every planets for resources, or can they coast through doing missions and side-quests to reach a balanced state of Galactic Readiness? Breaking down essential war assets and obtaining them plays an important role in determining how ready the galaxy is to take on the Reapers - and what Shepard's choices are when they finally meet up with the Catalyst. How many assets are needed to finish the game depends on what the player hopes to achieve.

The more assets acquired, the more effective their overall military strength became - and more opportunities for a better ending opened up. From technology and weaponry to alien fleets and scientists to help build the Crucible, nearly everything Shepard did resulted in building assets to complete the overall game. Mass Effect 3 was a heavy grind to gather as many war assets as Commander Shepard could muster in their efforts to defeat the Reapers.
